Family Photography at Ashton Court, Bristol
Earlier this month I had the pleasure of joining the Howell family on a Sunday afternoon walk. Ali was looking for a Bristol family photographer to capture her family as a 40th birthday gift to her husband Chris. She wasn’t looking for anything formal but just lots of lovely shots of everyone having fun. We decided to go to nearby Ashton Court Estate, one of my favourite places in Bristol to go for walks. The endless grassland, woodland and beautiful gardens provide numerous photography spots. Even on a busy day there is enough space to get away from the crowds. One of Bristol’s many treasures if you ask me!
For the best light, we met up around mid-afternoon for a two hour family photoshoot. I say photoshoot, but really it didn’t feel that formal at all. Rather than giving lots of direction, I took a much more laid-back approach and let everyone be themselves whilst I snapped away, capturing all those little moments and emotions that happen in a heartbeat. The kids soon felt comfortable with the camera. It helped that there was lots of exploring to do in the area so there was plenty of distraction for them. Just in case, I brought along a bubble blower to make them feel at ease and give them something fun to do. It really worked a treat and I managed to capture some different shots of the children blowing bubbles against the late afternoon sunlight. It’s safe to say the bubble blowing went down very well!
Below are a few of the images taken on the day. It just goes to show that even on a relatively overcast day in January, it’s perfectly doable to have a fun photoshoot in the great outdoors 🙂 To see more photos like these, visit my family photography page or to book your own family photo shoot please drop me a line. I’d love to hear from you.
